BRAKE TRAINING AND STAYING CURRENT IN BRAKES
Brake safety and reliability are of extreme importance to all of us in the brake industry. When troubleshooting brake systems and trying to determine why things do not function properly, it is very important to start with the basics. Without a clear understanding of the basic principles in air brakes, a thorough diagnosis cannot be done.
All of us in the service industry need to take time to thoroughly search out the knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals each and every year. Continuing education and training are part of DOT certification and very important to proper brake service. We at Brake Pro, Ltd. offer continuing education through seminars and technical service bulletins throughout the year. Seek out the information to keep yourself current and effective in insuring that all brake service is done according to the manufacturers' specifications and requirements.

BE THE PRO IN YOUR SHOP WHEN IT COMES TO BRAKES
Brakes are not just another system on the heavy-duty vehicle. They are the only thing that will allow control of the vehicle when it is moving down the highway. Once in motion, stopping that vehicle is essential if the vehicle is to be safe. What is required of each manager and technician? Examine the pros that are properly trained in heavy-duty air brake systems service and repair, and see what is important to them. Price is no way to determine what is right or wrong when it comes to servicing these systems.
Once the brake friction material is determined to be at or near replacement, what are the other things that should be inspected to determine the requirements for that brake service? Does the condition of the other components need to be taken into consideration? Does the inspection of wear pattern on the brake shoes and friction material tell anything that may lead to other component or system problems? Are these things taken into consideration when they are removed from the vehicle? If these items are not taken into consideration when they are removed, the results will be less than acceptable when the brakes are taken on the highway.

OUR MAIN OBJECTIVE IN TRAINING
Brake service is intended to bring the brakes' effectiveness back to the same or better than when the vehicle was delivered for initial service. When friction is replaced, anything that is done to the system is done to insure that this original effectiveness is maintained. Anything that causes the vehicle brakes to deteriorate below these standards can, and often does, cause brake-related problems. This also can result in poor lining performance, rapid friction wear, and improper braking. Be the pro; stay in the know, and keep the trucks safe. Brake training is intended to keep all technicians effective in brake service and diagnosis.
